Unkempt Backyard
Light of my heart,
Don't go out in the dark.
Our backyard is a wood,
Dirt path waits your foot.
Untended your bushes lie,
Once twice my prickly hands did pry
Rocks, I neglected to clear,
Sharp. Your feet are bare.
A step or two too far,
So easy to lose your star.
Trees naught, tall lonely stalks
Bring you leafless thoughts.
Light of my heart,
Don't go out in the dark.
Our home is our bosom,
Let's sit by the fireside,
Brush rocks and thorns aside,
Let love blind wisdom.
